The Victorian Government has introduced changes to the regulation of electricity and gas prices, which took effect from 1 January 2009. These changes are designed to make it easier for all Victorians to make the best energy choice to suit their needs.
All Victorian energy customers are on a contract that determines how much you pay your retailer for electricity and gas. There are two types of contracts - a standing contract or a market contract. Standing contract tariffs are usually higher than market contract tariffs, so it pays to look around for a market contract that suits you.
This website is designed to help you with your gas and electricity contract by providing you with:
- Practical tips on how to work out which type of contract you are on and how to negotiate the best contract for you with retailers. This information can be found by working through the topics on the left hand menu.
- A search engine which provides you with a list of all the standing contracts in your area, for your information. If you want to view these contracts, use the blue Make Your Choice box on the top right hand corner of this page.
- The search engine will also provide the details of a range of market contracts to help you make a choice of retailer.
